# 1,057 police, fire personnel get I-Day gallantry, service medals

The Centre on Friday awarded 1,057 personnel from Police, Fire, Home Guard and Correctional Services with Gallantry and Service Medals for Independence Day. Among the 301 Gallantry Medals, 197 went to personnel serving in Left Wing Extremism areas, 51 to Jammu and Kashmir, 12 to the North-East and 41 to other regions. The CRPF received the highest number of awards across categories, 86, including 24 gallantry medals. Three policemen from Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh received gallantry medals posthumously. Among the states, 15 Telangana cops were honoured: three with gallantry medals, two with President's Medals for Distinguished Service and 10 with Medals for Meritorious Service. Andhra Pradesh received seven gallantry medals, two President's Medals and 14 Meritorious Service Medals. A total of 92 President's Medals for Distinguished Service and 664 Medals for Meritorious Service were announced nationally.
