A fire at a sofa manufacturing factory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, killed 16 Bangladeshi migrant workers on Sunday. The blaze occurred in the Musa Sanaiya industrial area, officials in Dhaka said on Monday. Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is monitoring the situation, and officials from the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh are coordinating with Saudi authorities on repatriation. Expatriates' Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury has ordered the swift return of the bodies and compensation for the families. Approximately 3.5 million Bangladeshis live in Saudi Arabia, the largest destination for the country's migrant workers, who sent home over $2.7 billion in remittances last year.
