The fire started around 2.30am due to a short circuit outside the shop, police said. Both men, from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, were sleeping inside and became trapped. The deceased was identified as Altamas; the injured man, Aman, is being treated at Safdarjung Hospital. Police rescued the duo after controlling the flames near the exit. Altamas is suspected to have died of asphyxiation, said chief fire officer Pradeep Kumar Chaubey. Six fire engines were called, but the blaze was doused within half an hour using one engine. The shop used CNC machines for wood cutting. Police said Altamas was the shop owner's brother, and Aman had come to learn the trade.
