# Hyderabad Seizes 25,300 Kg Adulterated Spices, Arrests Three

Hyderabad authorities seized over 25,300 kg of spices adulterated with fabric and industrial dyes, synthetic colours and talcum powder, The Hindu reports. Three people were arrested and three cases registered after inspections at 13 establishments and other locations. NDTV reports the seizure as 25,000 kg. The seized stock included ajwain, cumin, mustard, cumin dust, shajeera, cloves and fennel seeds intended for sale in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Police said additives were used to improve colour, gloss and weight. A further 89,150 kg of raw material used in adulteration was seized. The products and chemicals have been sent for laboratory analysis, while authorities also recorded alleged misbranding and violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
