# 50 Naxal-affected Chhattisgarh artisans make President’s I-Day invite kit

Nearly 50 artisans from the once Naxal-affected Bastar region of Chhattisgarh are among 130 craftspeople who created this year's handmade invitation kit for the President's At Home reception on Independence Day. The kit showcases crafts from Chhattisgarh, Goa, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, including Dhokra metal casting, wrought iron bells, Warli and Bhil paintings, and a handwoven Maheshwari stole. Ashok Mondal, Director of the National Institute of Design, said the project took over three months and highlighted inclusive development in former Left-Wing Extremism-hit areas. The eco-friendly kit uses recycled scrap iron and traditional techniques, reflecting themes of sustainability and cultural preservation. Rashtrapati Bhavan and NID Ahmedabad conceptualised the design in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
