# 80th I-Day: Vande Mataram to debut at Red Fort

For the first time, Vande Mataram will be rendered at the Red Fort during the 80th Independence Day celebrations on August 15, marking 150 years of the national song. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the flag, assisted by Captain Sonia Singh Chauhan, with a 21-gun salute fired by indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns. The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which grants Vande Mataram the same legal protection as the national anthem, has received presidential assent, Livemint reports. Around 27,000 people will attend, including 5,000 special guests. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Doordarshan, YouTube, WAVES and HT India, beginning at 6:30 am.
