Nearly one in two Indian consumers now include protein in every meal, while 93 per cent of those who track their intake remain uncertain about protein information and daily requirements, according to a PulseAI Research report covered by Deccan Herald. The survey questioned 2,000 consumers across India. It found that 41 per cent track or estimate their intake and almost half check nutrition labels. Yet only 19 per cent seek advice from doctors or nutritionists, with most relying on online searches, social media or personal experience. The report said 50 per cent prefer whole foods such as pulses, dairy and nuts over supplements. Even among non-vegetarians, 31.4 per cent rely on plant sources. Deccan Herald also reported average protein intake at about 0.6 grams per kg of ideal body weight, below the ICMR recommendation of 0.8 to 1 gram.
