Patna: Police cracked a chilling murder case on Sunday by arresting two men, Bullu Rai and Laxman Rai, on charges of killing a partially disabled man, Jeet Lal Rai (40), a native of Sherpur, Maner.
The crime took place on Sept 13 near the Durga temple in Jivrakhan Tola, Maner, where Jeet, who was sleeping on a platform, was beaten to death with bricks and stones.City SP (west) Bhanu Pratap Singh said temple sweeper Laxman initially misled police by blaming Gaurakh and his brother Kariyava. However, CCTV footage from a camera repaired just a day before the murder revealed the truth. It showed Laxman keeping watch for passersby while Bullu attacked Jeet with bricks and stones.During interrogation, both confessed to the crime. They admitted it was an act of revenge. A few days earlier, a loudspeaker was stolen from the temple, and police had questioned Bullu and Laxman. The duo wrongly believed Gaurakh and Kariyava had tipped off the police. To frame the brothers, they killed Jeet, who used to sleep outside the temple, and fabricated a false story, Singh told reporters. The SP added that the arrests highlight the police’s swift action, aided by timely CCTV evidence, in bringing the culprits to justice.
