Days after the ceasefire understanding with India, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he is ready to have “peace talks” with New Delhi. On May 10, the hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbours came to a halt after days of escalation in the aftermath of ‘Operation Sindoor’ – launched by the Indian armed forces to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.
As many as 26 people were gunned down by terrorists at Baisaran Valley in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. In response, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, launching strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) and Pak’s Punjab province and killing over 100 terrorists.
Following this, Pakistan launched drone/missile attacks on Indian bordering regions. However, most of them were intercepted by the Indian air defence system.
‘Only conversation India willing to have…’
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed that the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) will remain in abeyance till Pakistan puts an end to cross-border terrorism. He also stated that the “only conversation India is willing to have with Pakistan is about Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir”.
