Yellow alert extended to May 20Panaji: The India meteorological department (IMD) on Friday extended its yellow alert for Goa to May 20, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h at isolated locations across both districts.The alert also includes forecasts of light to moderate rainfall throughout the state, which is expected to continue until May 22.In addition to thunderstorms, the state is expected to experience moderate rainfall in isolated places, with no significant changes in temperature. On May 15, Panaji recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8°C, which is 2.1°C above the normal for this time of year. Mormugao recorded a slightly cooler maximum temperature of 33.8°C.The minimum temperature for Panaji was 27.4°C and 28°C for Mormugao. The state’s humidity levels remained high, with Panaji recording 66% and Mormugao recording 79%, making the heat feel more intense during the day.Parts of Goa experienced pre-monsoon rainfall on Friday, with Quepem registering 35mm and Dharbandora receiving 33.1 mm.The IMD forecast also stated that conditions are favourable for advance of the southwest monsoon over some more parts of the south Arabian Sea, south Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of the Andaman Islands and Andaman Sea, and parts of the central Bay of Bengal during the next 2-3 days.
