Exascale computing represents a pivotal advancement with important implications for global technology, including India’s emerging digital ecosystem. While India currently does not host an operational exascale machine, investing in such technology aligns well with the nation’s ambitions to advance artificial intelligence, scientific research, drug development frameworks, and weather prediction capabilities-all areas vital for socio-economic robust growth.
Given the complexity and resource demands involved-high energy consumption alongside failure management-India would need ample infrastructural upgrades combined with government-private sector collaborations to harness this innovation effectively. Meanwhile, India can focus on fostering expertise in parallelized algorithms optimized for these platforms as a preparatory step toward future adoption.
India’s technological roadmap could also capitalize on quantum-computing integration developments globally since hybrid approaches could complement advancements already being pursued within its national priorities across sectors like climate action modeling or rural healthcare simulations.
