Chagalamarri Police have arrested five members of a cricket betting gang involved in placing bets on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
On the instructions of Superintendent of Police Adhiraj Singh Rana, the Allagadda sub-division police have kept a watch on the cricket betting gangs and received specific inputs about betting activity in Chagalamarri on Friday night. Police raided an open place near the flyover on the road leading to Mallevemula from Chagalamarri and nabbed five persons who were organising betting on the Sunrisers Hyderabad-Royal Challengers Bangalore match.
The arrested have been identified as — Byreddy Maddileti Reddy, Khaji Mohammed Rafi, Chakali Harikrishna, Bugga Baba Fakruddin and Shaik Sharif — all hailing from Chagalamarri town in the district, and the police seized ₹2.06 lakh cash from them. A case has been registered under the AP Gaming Act against the five accused, the police said.
