Kalaburagi Man Sentenced to Life for Wife’s Murder

The Fifth Additional Special District and Sessions Court in Kalaburagi has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife after she refused to give him money to consume alcohol in Kuknoor village of Yadrami taluk in the district.

As per information provided by Public Prosecutor Hayalappa Balabatti, Mahantappa Doddamani, resident of Kuknoor in Yadrami taluk, axed his wife Sangeeta to death after she refused to give him money to purchase alcohol.

According to investigation officers Jyoti and Rajasaheb Nadaf, the incident occurred on December 26, 2023 and a case was registered in Nelogi Police Station. Mahantappa Doddamani and Sangeeta were married for 10 years and had two children.

After hearing both parties and examining 14 witnesses and circumstantial evidence, judge Mohammad Mujeer found Mahantappa Doddamani guilty and convicted him of the offence under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The judge sentenced Mahantappa Doddamani to life imprisonment under IPC Section 302 [punishment for murder] and imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on him. Concurrently, Mahantappa Doddamani has been sentenced to three months imprisonment and fined ₹5,000 under IPC Section 323 [punishment for voluntarily causing hurt].
