Around 20 trees were uprooted at the Velichintala Gudem village in Gopalapuram mandal of East Godavari district. Electricity poles were also damaged, disrupting the power supply to the village.

However, no casualties have been reported, said Kovvuru Revenue Divisional Officer Rani Susmitha after inspecting the village.

“A community hall and a government primary school have been opened for the relief of the affected families. The villagers will stay at these facilities till the power supply is restored. The restoration of power and other facilities is expected by Sunday,” said Ms. Rani Susmitha.

Meanwhile, all the tourist destinations in Rampachodavaram Agency of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, including Papikonda National Park and waterfalls within the park, Gudisa grassland and other places, have been closed.

Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Rampachodavaram Project Officer Katta Simhachalam appealed to the tourists not to visit the Agency until further orders. “The police have been directed to put up warning boards about the closure of the tourist places,” said Mr. Simhachalam.
