The Supreme Court on Monday allowed Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee to travel abroad for three weeks for eye treatment. A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant set aside the Calcutta High Court order that had denied permission. The high court had said Banerjee refused to appear before a medical board at SSKM Hospital for assessment. The travel restriction was part of conditions in a case over alleged comments at a public meeting during the West Bengal Assembly elections. Banerjee has interim protection from coercive action until October 6.
