# Jadavpur University unrest leaves students injured, protests continue 2026-08-20T12:13:52+00:00 | India | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets Clashes between ABVP and Left-leaning student groups at Jadavpur University in Kolkata left several students injured and triggered protests on Thursday. Some injured students were taken to hospital, university sources said. The confrontation began during a meeting of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Students’ Union and continued into the early hours. The administrative building was locked, and fires were allegedly set at some campus locations. The Hindu reports that both camps accused each other of bringing outsiders. ABVP alleged that Left groups started the confrontation, while SFI, DSO and DSF accused ABVP supporters of entering with outsiders and vandalising university property. In the afternoon, ABVP supporters breached police barricades near locked gate 4, while SFI supporters clashed with police near the 8B bus stand. SFI supporters later held a sit-in after being stopped. ABVP and SFI announced separate protests. ## Indian Opinion Analysis The Hindustan Times presents the incident mainly as a dispute between two student camps, giving space to both allegations and the reported injuries. The Deccan Chronicle places greater emphasis on the afternoon confrontation with police, barricades and attempts to enter the campus, making the unrest appear more immediate and dramatic. Neither account establishes who brought outsiders or caused the alleged vandalism and fires. The careful reading is that an overnight campus clash developed into separate confrontations involving police, with competing claims still unresolved. The next point to watch is whether the announced protests lead to further clashes or formal police action. ## Coverage Coverage: 2 sources, 1 neutral, 1 sensationalist - hindustantimes.com (neutral report) Reports injuries and competing allegations without endorsing either side - deccanchronicle.com (sensationalist) Leads with barricade breaches, police clashes and dramatic campus scenes This story was synthesised by AI from the 2 sources linked above.
