Venture capital firm Accel has raised $550 million for its ninth India-focused early-stage fund, part of a $3.5 billion global fundraise across four vehicles. The new fund comes roughly 18 months after Accel closed a $650 million eighth India fund. Partner Abhinav Chaturvedi told the Times of India that more than half of that earlier fund remains undeployed, and the fresh capital is meant to ensure resources are available when opportunities arise. Accel will focus on artificial intelligence, deeptech, financial services, and advanced manufacturing. The firm typically invests at post-money valuations of $10 million to $20 million, targeting companies that can reach multi-billion-dollar market capitalisations. AI is changing startup economics, with Chaturvedi noting that smaller teams can now achieve more. The firm has backed companies including Flipkart, Swiggy, and Freshworks.
