# Afghanistan seals 2027 World Cup berth, West Indies face qualifiers

Afghanistan became the 10th team to qualify for the 2027 ODI World Cup after defeating Ireland by three wickets in Belfast on Monday. The win ensured Afghanistan finishes among the top eight in ODI rankings as of September 30, 2026, earning direct entry to the Super 12s. The other qualified teams are India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe. Twice champions West Indies, ranked 10th, cannot reach the automatic spots and must go through the ten-team Qualifier tournament for the third successive World Cup cycle. The new format also includes a Super Series for the second-to-fourth placed qualifier teams, with only the winner of that series joining the main draw. Namibia, a co-host, is an associate member and must also qualify through the stages.
