The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Amit Dongre, Chief Fire Officer of the Ahmedabad Fire Brigade, and middleman Bhavsinh Jhala for allegedly accepting a Rs 36,000 bribe to clear fire No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for six buildings. The bribe was demanded at Rs 6,000 per building after applications were submitted through the Gujarat government portal. A complainant who refused to pay approached the Vadodara ACB, which laid a trap near Yes Aqua Complex in Memnagar on August 7. Jhala was caught collecting Rs 36,000, and investigators found links to Dongre, appointed CFO in October 2024. The ACB is now examining other NOCs issued by Dongre and auditing his assets to check for a wider corruption network.
