# AI Takes the Stage in Edinburgh Fringe Satire

Computer scientist and actor Piotr Mirowski is taking his latest production, “Improbotics Presents: Artificial Reality”, to this month’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The show places a robot alongside human performers in a parody of reality television, where audiences eliminate contestants who are replaced by AI versions or AI celebrities. Mirowski, a visiting researcher at Goldsmiths, University of London, helped create Improbotics after experimenting with language models trained on subtitles and film dialogue. The 11-member production treats AI neither as a saviour nor an enemy. Its four-person human writing team did not use AI to create the show’s structure. Mirowski says the company is concerned about how AI is deployed, while arguing that it can enable artists to do things otherwise impossible.
