# Karnataka unions demand immediate implementation of revised minimum wages

Trade unions have stepped up protests in Karnataka over the State government’s delay in implementing revised minimum wages notified on May 22, 2026. AIUTUC held demonstrations in Mysuru and Kalaburagi, while CITU announced a Kalaburagi protest for August 10. The Hindu reports that CITU district president M.B. Sajjan said the revised monthly minimum wage for highly skilled Zone-I workers would be about Rs. 31,000 and that nearly one crore workers were affected. AIUTUC alleges the Finance Department is withholding implementation under pressure and says the delay is hurting contract workers. Its memorandum cited the absence of an interim stay from the Karnataka High Court and demanded enforcement, arrears and stronger inspections. The unions say wages had not been revised for years before the notification.
