# Maharashtra Panel to Review Rail Route Near GMRT

The Maharashtra government has formed a four-member committee, chaired by former Atomic Energy Commission chief Anil Kakodkar, to assess the proposed Pune-Ahilyanagar-Nashik semi-high-speed railway’s impact on the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope at Khodad. The panel includes Railway Board infrastructure member Vivek Gupta and the divisional commissioners of Pune and Nashik. The review will examine electromagnetic, operational and technical effects of the original and revised alignments. It will study tunnelling, elevated corridors and limited realignment, along with travel time, costs, land acquisition and connectivity. The committee is expected to consult stakeholders and submit its report within 60 days, after concerns from scientific institutions about possible interference with telescope observations.
