# Apple India sales cross $10 billion as retail and manufacturing expand

Apple’s sales in India crossed $10 billion in the 12 months to March, up from about $9 billion the previous fiscal year, according to a person familiar with the figures cited by Bloomberg and Reuters. IPhones made up most sales, while demand for iPads and MacBooks also rose. Apple now has six official stores in India, after opening a Mumbai outlet in February, and has added premium resellers. India is also becoming a larger manufacturing base for Apple. Five factories produce iPhones, with one in four devices now made in India, according to Mint. Another estimate puts annual production at about 55 million iPhones. India is considering extending tax exemptions for equipment and components until 2041, but that proposal has not been approved.
