Arjun Erigaisi and Nihal Sarin finished in the top eight of the Esports World Cup chess tournament in Paris. Arjun and Nihal both lost their quarterfinal matches on Friday, ending India's campaign. Earlier, both had advanced through the last-bracket qualifiers: Nihal beat Jan-Krzysztof Duda in Armageddon, and Arjun defeated Pranesh M in two straight games. Denis Lazavik knocked out Ian Nepomniachtchi in the final qualifier match. The semifinals and final are set for August 15. Sports NDTV reports that both Indians earned top-eight finishes.
