# Ashish Yadav wins silver in men’s javelin at World U20 Championships

Ashish Yadav won silver in the men's javelin at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, USA, opening India's medal account. The 19-year-old's third-round throw of 74.09m placed him second, 40cm short of his personal best. T Dharanidharan finished sixth with 72.35m. Yadav became the second Indian after Neeraj Chopra to win a U20 javelin medal. Chopra had won gold with a world junior record of 86.48m in 2016. Gold went to South Africa's Jan-Hendrik Heymans, who threw 80.50m. Dominica's Addison James took bronze with 73.89m. In other events, Mohammad Ashfaq finished eighth in the men's 400m final, and Pooja Singh qualified for the women's high jump final.
