Speaking on JioHotstar’s 'Cheeky Singles', Ashwin said he was hurt but later used the jibe to work relentlessly on his game. Manjrekar wrote a positive article about Ashwin in 2015, prompting the spinner to message him and thank him for the earlier criticism that changed his career. Ashwin retired as India’s second-highest international wicket-taker with 537 Test scalps, behind only Anil Kumble.
