# Asian Junior Chess Championships begin in Mumbai with 157 players

The Asian Junior Chess Championships 2026 will bring together 157 players from 10 countries in Mumbai from August 16 to 26. The tournament, organised by the Maharashtra Chess Association under FIDE and the All India Chess Federation, features nine rounds of classical chess and seven rounds each of rapid and blitz. The open section is led by India's IM Mayank Chakraborty (2500 ELO), followed by Russia's IM Artem Pingin (2477) and India's IM Apoorv Kamble (2441). In the women's category, India's WFM Pratitee Bordoloi (2252) heads the field. Winners who are already IMs will earn a Grandmaster norm, while non-IM winners get an IM norm.
