Police in Arunachal Pradesh fired shots into the air on Thursday to disperse a mob after stone pelting broke out between protesters from Assam and Arunachal along the disputed border in Dhemaji district. The incident occurred on the second day of an indefinite economic blockade launched by Assam’s Mising community student body TMPK and other local groups. The blockade began on Wednesday to protest an alleged firing by miscreants from Arunachal on Monday that injured 11 indigenous people from Assam. Protesters have stopped most vehicles entering or leaving Arunachal through border points, demanding an early resolution to the boundary dispute and action against those behind the firing.
