Bikash Ranjan Dhar, 52, a BJP booth president in Assam's Sribhumi district, was found murdered near the Tripura border after being missing for two days. Police have detained six people, and one accused confessed that Dhar was killed with a machete. During the investigation, an accused tried to escape and attacked a constable; police fired, injuring him in the leg. Dhar went missing on August 12 from Chagalmowa village. His body was recovered from a pond in Jogichhara on Friday. Police say the murder stemmed from personal enmity. The recovery sparked protests and arson in nearby areas, leading the district to impose prohibitory orders under BNSS Section 163. The situation is now under control, police said.
