# Assam teenager dies saving puppy; CM visits, NGO gives ₹1 lakh

Ridip Panika, 13, died after entering floodwaters in Assam to save his three-month-old puppy Borun. He succeeded in rescuing the animal but was carried away by the strong current, The Assam Tribune reports. (NDTV spells the boy’s name as Rideep and the dog’s as Barun.) The Class 7 student was the only child of Deepak and Parbati Panika of Bamun Pukhuri village. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma later visited the bereaved family. True Hope Foundation, an NGO, gave ₹1 lakh financial assistance. Panika’s family also lost belongings and their home was damaged in the floods, which have devastated large parts of the state.
