# Assam floods: schools in affected districts to reopen August 10

Schools in Assam's flood-hit districts will reopen from August 10 wherever campuses are functional, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced on Friday. Restoration work, including removal of silt, is underway. In Sivasagar district alone, 545 of 1,250 schools were affected, and Pegu said he has directed authorities to resume classes where feasible. Where schools remain unfit, the government will arrange alternative teaching, similar to measures used during Covid-19. Pegu said the aim is to prevent students from losing learning time. Cleaning and repair work continues in other institutions.
