The Hindu reports that Assam residents have linked illegal mining and extensive tree felling in Nagaland to flooding in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat. Assam’s floods have killed 95 people and affected more than 7.5 lakh since April. Nagaland also suffered heavy damage, including 11 deaths in Mon town after landslides on July 19. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered police to stop unauthorised flood donation drives.
