# Assam STF arrests alleged GST fraud mastermind from Kolkata

Assam Police’s Special Task Force has arrested Vinit Kumar Poddar from Kolkata, calling him the mastermind of a nationwide fake GST and Input Tax Credit racket. Poddar was brought to Guwahati on transit remand Wednesday night, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 12. According to the STF, two cases were registered in June and July this year. The agency suspects the racket operated across multiple states through fraudulent GST registrations. Earlier this month, the STF arrested Vivek Kumar Gupta and Surajit Barman. Investigators have seized mobile phones, SIM cards and documents. More suspects are under surveillance.
