# Assam flood damage estimate likely by September 10

Assam will begin a door-to-door assessment of flood-hit households in four worst-affected districts from August 9, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday. The first phase will run until August 30, with a second round of verification to fix errors. Sarma expects a clear estimate of losses and funds needed for rehabilitation by September 10. A dedicated digital app will let officers upload damage images for transparency. Over 1.55 lakh people remain affected across 13 districts, with the toll reaching 98, reports Hindustan Times. The affected districts are Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat and Charaideo. The government has already sanctioned Rs 2 lakh each to 793 flood-affected schools for preliminary repairs. Students whose schools are unfit will be accommodated in nearby institutions. Sarma said urban flooding in Jorhat requires public cooperation, noting that plastic waste clogs drains.
