# 6 dead, 2 trapped in Chamoli tunnel collapse at THDC project

Six workers died and 14 were injured after water and debris surged into an under-construction tunnel at the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) Ltd project in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, on Thursday evening. District magistrate Gaurav Kumar said the incident occurred around 6.30 pm at the Pipalkoti site. Preliminary reports said 22 workers were trapped; 16 were rescued safely and four others were pulled out later, but six of them were declared dead. Two workers remain trapped. Multiple agencies, SDRF, NDRF, CISF, ITBP, and Army, are conducting rescue operations. Chief Minister Dhami has ordered all agencies to work on a war footing. The tunnel was being built by Hindustan Construction Company (HCC).
