# MCOCA court seeks explanation from Mumbai Crime Branch over Anmol Bishnoi custody failure 2026-08-06T02:26:28+00:00 | India | Indian Opinion Desk A special MCOCA court in Mumbai issued a show-cause notice to an Assistant Commissioner of Police and the investigating officer after the Mumbai Crime Branch failed to secure custody of alleged gangster Anmol Bishnoi, wanted in the Baba Siddique murder case, the Free Press Journal reported. The notice followed a plea by Shehzeen, Siddique's wife, alleging wilful disobedience of the court's 10 July order directing the Crime Branch to take Bishnoi into custody, by video conference if not in person, given a Government of India order of 5 December 2025 barring his physical removal from Tihar Jail. The Crime Branch obtained a production warrant and sought physical custody through a special NIA court in Delhi, which rejected the request, but did not attempt the video conferencing route the Mumbai court had specified. Judge Satyanarayan Navander called the officer's explanation for that omission wholly unsatisfactory and sought a response before deciding whether to pursue contempt proceedings. ## Indian Opinion Analysis The court's finding of prima facie deliberate disregard rests on the gap between what it directed, custody by video conference as an alternative to physical production, and what the Crime Branch actually attempted, which the court called a repeat of an exercise bound to fail in view of the existing restraint order. The court records that the officer's compliance report carried no explanation for why no attempt was made through video conferencing or any other legally permissible mode, and that explanation is what it has now demanded.
