# Boat captain charged after Liberty Island capsizing kills woman, baby

A boat captain has been charged with 13 counts of reckless endangerment after his vessel capsized near New York's Liberty Island, killing a 27-year-old woman and her five-month-old daughter. Manuel Hernandez, 46, was arrested at the scene. The 22-foot bowrider boat was carrying 14 people, above its typical capacity of 10-12, when it overturned around 10:27 pm on Saturday. The victims were identified as Sara Sanchez and Antonella Garcia of Queens. The baby's father was also on board but survived. Twelve other passengers were rescued and taken to hospital with minor injuries. The cause of the capsizing remains under investigation by the US Coast Guard and New York police.
