# Bangladesh asks India to speed up Hasina extradition

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday asked India to expedite the extradition of former premier Sheikh Hasina, who has been living in India since being ousted in 2024. The request came during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi in Dhaka, days after Hasina held a virtual press conference criticising the Rahman government. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman said he felt “somewhat reassured” after the meeting that India would not allow such events to recur. Dhaka also pressed for the handover of suspects in the December 2025 murder of youth leader Osman Hadi, who are believed to have fled to India. India's external affairs ministry said it did not endorse Hasina's remarks and described the meeting as an exchange of views on matters of mutual interest. The two countries are also discussing a possible bilateral visit as well as India's participation in the upcoming BRICS summit.
