# Bangladesh Shuts Malls at 8 PM, Asks India for Diesel

Bangladesh has asked India for additional diesel supplies as it battles one of its worst power crises in years, Hindustan Times reports. The Power Division has ordered all shopping malls, markets and shops to operate only from 11am to 8pm to conserve energy. Hospitals, pharmacies and food businesses are exempt. A severe shortage of natural gas has slashed electricity generation, causing widespread load-shedding. Bangladesh’s Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood said after meeting Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi that they sought more diesel through the existing cross-border pipeline. The Iran crisis has further tightened global fuel and LNG markets, the minister added.
