# Bihar BJP Reviews Bankipur Byelection Defeat After 19,000-Vote Loss 2026-08-06T04:21:58+00:00 | India | Indian Opinion Desk Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary met senior BJP leaders in Patna to review the party’s defeat in the Bankipur Assembly byelection. Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by more than 19,000 votes on 3 August. The BJP had held the seat since 1995. The byelection followed sitting MLA Nitin Nabin’s appointment as party president and election to the Rajya Sabha. State leaders, including Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, party president Sanjay Saraogi and organisational leader Bhikhubhai Dalsaniya, attended the meeting. BJP spokesperson Kuntal Krishna said the party received nearly 50% fewer votes than in the 2025 Assembly election. Leaders said they would examine the reasons for the defeat.
