Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta's Batwara 1947 earned Rs 25.15 crore net in India over its three-day opening weekend, according to Koimoi. The film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, saw a 43% drop in collections on day three after a spike on Independence Day. Pinkvilla reports the weekend total as slightly under Rs 25 crore, calling the trend 'miraculous' if the film is to recover. The film was made on a budget of Rs 120 crore and has recovered only about 21% of that amount, Koimoi says. To break into the top five most profitable partition dramas, it would need to earn Rs 197.55 crore, an 'impossible target' according to the outlet. Sunny Deol's previous hits Gadar 2 and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha remain the most profitable partition films. Batwara 1947 also failed to enter the top 10 opening weekend grossers of 2026 in Bollywood, falling short of the Rs 28.51 crore needed. The film's performance lags behind Sunny Deol's last solo release, Jaat (2025), which earned Rs 40.62 crore in its extended opening weekend.
