# Batwara 1947 opens at Rs 5.75 crore, trails Awarapan 2

Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 collected an estimated Rs 5.75 crore on its opening day, well below industry projections of Rs 9 crore, according to early estimates. The partition drama, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, sold only 20,000 advance tickets in national chains. It lagged far behind the Emraan Hashmi-starrer Awarapan 2, which earned Rs 21 crore on Day 1 with 43 per cent occupancy. The film received mixed to positive reviews and faces a tough fight at the box office. However, the August 15 Independence Day holiday could boost Saturday numbers. Batwara 1947 also marks Preity Zinta's comeback and features music by AR Rahman and lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
