# Bengal CM orders fresh probe into RG Kar doctor rape-murder on mother’s plea

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday ordered a fresh probe into the 2024 rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The decision followed a request from the victim's mother, Ratna Debnath, now a BJP MLA. Adhikari claimed police failed in their duty and ordered a separate investigation into alleged irregularities during the victim's cremation, including claims that her body was moved up in the queue and cremated hastily with unpaid charges. A two-minute silence was observed across government hospitals in the state. The West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front held a free clinic at Chitpur and a memorial march from College Street to Esplanade. While civic volunteer Sanjay Roy was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, the victim's parents and colleagues maintain others were involved. The CBI continues its investigation into an alleged conspiracy on orders of the Calcutta High Court.
