Alliance Francaise, Bengaluru, will host 'S L Bhyrappa Samsrana,' a two-day literary festival celebrating the life and works of late Kannada literary giant Dr S L Bhyrappa on August 22 and 23. The event opens with a documentary screening and a session on memories of the writer featuring Dr Uday Shankar, filmmaker P Seshadri, and former MP Prathap Simha. The programme includes a musical tribute by Hindustani singer Pandit Dr Chidananda Murthy, a debate competition for students on the relevance of Bhyrappa's works, and a literary appreciation series introducing his books. A festival book exhibition titled 'The World of Dr S L Bhyrappa' will also be held across the two days.

## Indian Opinion Analysis

S L Bhyrappa, who died in February 2025, is among Kannada literature's most widely read and translated authors, with works like 'Parva' and 'Tantu' sparking debate on caste, mythology and modernity. This festival arrives as publishers report renewed interest in his backlist. The debate competition for students signals an attempt to connect his themes with younger readers, who may encounter his work through new editions and academic syllabi. The next marker to watch is whether the documentary or book exhibition leads to wider distribution deals for his titles.
