The police have arrested a 29-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly murdering his wife following an argument on Thursday at their house in Varthur, East Bengaluru.
The accused has been identified as Ravinder Singh, a carpenter who has been living in Dommasandra near Varthur for the past three years with his family. He allegedly strangled his wife, Poonam Singh, using a rope around 10 a.m. and then informed her family in Uttar Pradesh.
Police said Poonam’s family immediately contacted her relative, Bijender Singh, who also lives in Bengaluru, and asked him to check on her. When he visited her house around 2 p.m., he found Poonam lying dead on the bed while Ravinder was sitting in a corner of the house.
Bijender alerted the police and later filed a formal complaint, following which Ravinder was arrested. An FIR has been filed at the Varthur police station against Ravinder under BNS Section 103 (Punishment for murder).
A police officer told The Hindu that the couple had an argument over a trivial matter, which quickly escalated and led to Poonam’s murder.
