# HAL Airport gets satellite-guided navigation for choppers

HAL Airport in Bengaluru has become India's first airport to operationalise a satellite-guided precision navigation system for helicopters, called RNP CAT H. The Airports Authority of India developed the procedure, which HAL test pilots validated and the DGCA approved. The system allows helicopters to fly accurate paths using satellite navigation, cutting approach time from 12 minutes to about four minutes. It improves all-weather access, reduces noise over cities, and helps time-critical operations like air ambulance and rescue missions. With nearly 50 helicopter movements daily, the airport has closed a long-standing gap in India's aviation infrastructure, HAL said.
