A consortium led by Amit Bhatia, son-in-law of steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, is closing in on a 30 per cent stake in Liverpool FC, Sky News reports. The deal values the Premier League club at $6 billion (about Rs 50,000 crore). Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin are part of the group. The Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool's owner since 2010, is expected to announce the transaction next week. For Bezos and Saverin, this would be their first sports team investment. Bezos is worth an estimated $280 billion, while Saverin is worth over $32 billion. Bhatia recently sold his shares in English Championship side Queens Park Rangers. The deal, if completed, would be among the most valuable in football history. Liverpool most recently won the Premier League in 2024-25 but finished fifth last season.
