# Big Tech’s $1 trillion AI data centre lease burden grows

Five big tech companies, Microsoft, Meta, Oracle, Amazon and Alphabet, face about $1.09 trillion in future payments under data centre leases not yet begun, according to a Reuters analysis of company filings. This is nearly four times the $285 billion in lease liabilities already on their balance sheets. Oracle has the most exposure with $260 billion in uncommenced leases, while Microsoft leads the pipeline at $329 billion. Separately, Business Today reports that big tech has issued around $200 billion in corporate bonds in 2026 alone, nearly double the 2025 total. The cost of insuring that debt has risen sharply, with Oracle's five-year credit default swap climbing 70 basis points. Goldman Sachs estimates nearly $500 billion in AI-related debt has been issued this year.
