# BJP, TIPRA Motha to hold key Delhi meet on tribal council polls alliance

The BJP and Tipra Motha Party (TMP) are expected to hold a crucial meeting in New Delhi on Saturday or Sunday to discuss an electoral alliance for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) village committee polls, sources said. A closed-door meeting in Shillong on Wednesday, attended by TMP founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma and senior party leaders, finalised the agenda for the talks. The TMP leadership has reportedly reached a consensus in principle to explore an alliance with the BJP but placed conditions, including the implementation of commitments under a tripartite agreement signed with the Centre and the state government, according to sources. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh are likely to attend the Delhi meeting, sources said. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who left for Delhi on Sunday, confirmed discussions with TMP leaders would be held. The TTAADC village committee elections, scheduled for September, are being held after a nine-year gap following a Supreme Court ruling. In the 2021 district council polls, TMP swept 24 of 28 seats while the BJP won only four, prompting the ruling party to seek an alliance in the tribal areas, which cover nearly 70% of the state.
