# BJP MP Bidhuri apologises at Akal Takht for Sajjan Kumar visit 2026-10-03T14:21:43+00:00 | Politics | Indian Opinion Desk Corroboration: 2 independent outlets Bharatiya Janata Party MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri appeared before the Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar on Saturday, 3 October 2026, and sought forgiveness for visiting the residence of late Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in August. Kumar was convicted in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Bidhuri told IANS he met Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and accepted his mistake, saying he felt a great burden after news reports of the visit emerged. Bidhuri was among three BJP MPs, along with Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Yogender Chandolia, who visited Kumar's home after his death. The visit drew criticism from BJP chief Nitin Nabin, who reprimanded the MPs, and from senior BJP leader and advocate H.S. Phoolka, who called for their boycott, saying sympathy should be for victims' families. Bidhuri reiterated his long-standing demand for strict punishment for those responsible for the 1984 killings, noting he had raised the issue with former prime minister V.P. Singh in 1990. ## Indian Opinion Analysis Both sources report the same facts from Bidhuri's statement and party criticism, but The Hans India leads with the party's ire, naming chief Nitin Nabin and quoting H.S. Phoolka's boycott call before Bidhuri's own remarks. Yes Punjab leads with the apology itself and the Akal Takht setting, placing party criticism second. Neither outlet omits or disputes a detail, the difference is solely in top-of-story emphasis. The uniform account is that Bidhuri's personal act of seeking forgiveness is the only concrete next step, with no indication of whether the other two MPs will follow or if the party considers the matter closed. ## Coverage Coverage: 2 sources, 2 neutral - thehansindia.com (neutral report) Leads with party criticism, straight news with quotes - yespunjab.com (neutral report) Leads with apology and Akal Takht, balanced account This brief was synthesised by AI from the 2 sources linked above, so one read covers every framing they carry.
